Looking for a free PC game where you and your friends can meet up every night? Valdoria Online, the orcs vs. elves MMORPG, is made to be played together: you level up as a group, take your crew into a dungeon and bring down world bosses as a team. And when it's time to settle the score, a four-letter code is all it takes to challenge a friend to a duel.

Five-Player Groups That Share Experience

Valdoria is played in groups of five, and the group shares experience: as long as you stick together, you level up together. It's the perfect size for the game's dungeon, the Dusk Fortress, which is also built for five.

Everyone picks a role from their side's five classes. The tank takes the hits and draws the enemies' attention; the warrior fights in melee with rage and finishing blows; the rogue relies on stealth, combos and crits; the healer heals and protects allies at range; and the caster punishes enemies with high-damage spells and crowd control. With a tank up front and a healer behind, the rest of the group can focus on damage. Not sure which one suits you? See which class to play.

And if your group is ever short a healer, there's no need for another account: yours keeps one character for each class of every race you have, so you can create whatever the group needs without touching the others.

Guilds, Friends List, Chat and Whispers

So you never lose track of anyone between sessions, Valdoria has everything you'd expect from a social MMORPG: a friends list, whispers for private conversations, general and trade chat, and guilds for anyone who wants something more lasting than a one-night group.

Chat commands come in English too: /who, /whisper, /party, /guild, /invite and the rest work alongside the Spanish ones, so everyone can use the ones they already know.

There's a meeting place outside the game too. In the website's community, every player has a public profile with their characters and gear, and the forum is where adventurers get together to talk about the game. And in My Account you can see the full sheet for each of your characters, guild included.

Content to Tackle Together: Dungeon, Castle, Caves and World Bosses

Playing with friends really shines when the challenge calls for a group. Valdoria has four kinds of challenge built for teaming up:

And with Vorathar, nobody leaves empty-handed: every participant, even those who fell in the fight, gets an epic piece for their class, gold and a shot at one of his six epics. You'll find the details in the dungeons and world bosses guide, and every creature with its loot in the database.

Trade with Your Friends: Face to Face, by Mail or at the Auction House

Got a spare piece of gear that would be perfect for your friend? You can hand it over in a face-to-face trade or send it by mail, which carries both gold and items. For everything else, there's the auction house, shared by both factions, and the bank.

There are bankers and couriers in both capitals, in Crossway, in Windharbor and in the Dawn Refuge, and auctioneers in the capitals and in Crossway. What you won't find is a premium currency: gold is earned by playing.

Duel Your Friends with a Four-Letter Code

When it's time to see who's best, there's the Training Grounds, a colosseum you enter from the main menu. One of you creates a room and gives the other its four-letter code; each of you picks a character, and whoever created the room sets both players' levels and gear difficulty: Basic, Medium or Full Gear.

Anything goes there: any race (paid ones included), any class, any talent tree and any level from 1 to 60. And nothing that happens in the Training Grounds affects your character, so it's also the perfect place to try out that class you've been eyeing before you level it. If your friend isn't around, you can take on the AI instead: it reacts with your connection's latency and doesn't know when your abilities are ready until it sees you use them.

Outside the Training Grounds, player combat happens on the frontier, where you can turn on faction combat and earn honor. And it's fair: in neither mode can you attack anyone more than five levels away from you. It's all in the PvP guide.

Everyone in Their Own Language: Play with Spanish-Speaking Friends

Not everyone in your group speaks English? No problem. Valdoria is fully playable in English and Spanish: menus, windows, quests, items, abilities and messages. Each player picks their language with the “Language” button in the main menu or the Esc window, and everything that happens in the world reaches each player in their own language, even when they're playing together.

So one group can mix players in English and players in Spanish without anyone having to change a thing. The website is in both languages too: you can switch from the menu or the footer of any page.

How to Get Started Together

  1. Everyone downloads the game. It's free, and all it needs is 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 12 graphics card: about 1.9 GB the first time, and after that the launcher only downloads what's changed. If Windows warns you about an unrecognized app, click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
  2. Everyone creates an account. On the website or right in the game. Your account name (3 to 16 letters, numbers or underscores) is what other players will see, so share it with your group.
  3. Everyone in the same mode. Original Mode and Hardcore Mode are separate worlds, each with its own characters, guilds, mail, auction house and leaderboard, and they never mix. In Hardcore you only get one life, and anyone who falls leaves their name in the Hall of the Fallen.
  4. Everyone on the same side, so you level together. Each faction starts in its own capital, orcs in Redfang Bastion and elves in Moonveil Sanctuary, and the other faction's travel portals won't respond to you. If one of you wants to be an orc and another an elf, you can still face off on the frontier or in the Training Grounds; compare both sides in orcs vs. elves.
  5. Form your group. Use chat commands like /invite or /party, and add your crew to your friends list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my friends have to pay?

No: the game is free for everyone, from level 1 to 60 and in both modes. The only paid content is six optional races, each a one-time purchase per account that's yours forever (they're coming to Steam as DLC), and they give no levels, gear or items.

How many of us can be in a group?

Five, and the group shares experience. The Dusk Fortress is built for five too; for Vorathar, the dragon who closes out the world, you'll need five or six level 60 players.

Can we play together if we pick different sides?

To level together, you should all pick the same side, because each faction starts in its own capital. If you pick different sides, there's still plenty to do together: you can clash on the frontier or duel in the Training Grounds with any race and class.

Can I play with someone who has the game in Spanish?

Yes: each player picks their language with the “Language” button, and everything that happens in the world reaches each of them in their own.

How do I invite a friend to my group?

With chat commands like /invite or /party; /who, /whisper and /guild work too, alongside the Spanish ones.

Can Hardcore Mode characters play with Original Mode characters?

No: they're two worlds that never mix, each with its own characters, guilds, mail, auction house and leaderboard. It's best to agree on a mode before you start.
